Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri bin Tan Sri Abdul Aziz, Minister in the Prime Minister’s department, was on a working visit to Paris from 15 to 18 March 2005. He was accompanied by five Parliamentary Secretaries namely the Hon. Dato’ Mohd Johari Baharum, from the Prime Minister’s department; the Hon. Dato’ Dr. Subramaniam K.V. Santhasivam, Ministry of Housing and Local Government; the Hon. Madam Komala Devi, Ministry of Education; the Hon. Madam Noriah Kasnon, Ministry of Information; and the Hon. Mr. Hoo Seong Cheng, Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs. Also in the delegation were the Hon. Datuk Dr Rahman Ismail, MP of Gombak and the Minister’s press secretary, Encik Mohamad Haji Mat Isa.
During the visit, the Hon. Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri bin Tan Sri Abdul Aziz had talks with Mr. Henry Cuq, French Minister Delegate for Parliamentary Relations; Mr. Jean-Marie Le Guen, Deputy and President of the France-Malaysia Friendship group of the French National Assembly; and Mr. Didier Boulaud, Senator of Nièvre, Mayor of Nevers and Secretary of the French Senate.
The meeting with Mr. Henry Cuq, French Minister Delegate for Relations with the Parliament was held in a friendly and cordial atmosphere. Among the issues discussed during the talks were the Iraq war, the enlargement of the European Union, and Myanmar . The Hon. Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri also explained to his French counterpart Malaysia’s parliamentary and political system.
A meeting and luncheon hosted by Mr. Jean-Marie Le Guen, Deputy and President of the France-Malaysia Friendship Group of the National Assembly, were held in honor of the Minister and his delegation as well as members of the France–Malaysia Friendship group at the Petit Hotel of the National Assembly. During the lunch, the Malaysian delegation had the opportunity to exchange views on the parliamentarian systems of the two countries with their French counterparts.
At the Senate, the delegation had talks with Mr. Didier Boulaud, Senator of Nievre and Secretary of the Senate. Mr. Didier Boulaud was also the former President of the France-Malaysia Friendship Group of the National Assembly. Among the discussions were Malaysia’s current economic and political situation, the activities initiated by the two Friendship Groups in both countries and the international political developments.
The Malaysian parliamentarians were given a guided tour of both the National Assembly and the Senate.
The delegation then met with Malaysian students at a dinner hosted by H. E. Dato’ Hamidah Mohd Yusoff, Ambassador of Malaysia to France on Thursday, 17 March. There are currently 183 Malaysian students in France mostly taking undergraduate courses in higher French institutions. The meeting was an opportunity for students to be updated on current Malaysian government policies. A wide range of questions were also fielded by the students and satisfactory replies were given accordingly by the Hon. Minister.
The Hon. Minister and the parliamentary delegation left Paris on 18 March 2005.
