WAYANG KULIT, MANORA AND MAKYUNG
AT THE 11TH FESTIVAL DE L’IMAGINAIRE IN PARIS

Come and watch Malaysia’s traditional performing arts staging for the first time in France. The Wayang Kulit (shadow puppet theatre), Manora and Makyung (proclaimed as a masterpiece of cultural heritage by UNESCO) will be at the “11th Festival de l’Imaginaire”, organized by the Maison des Cultures du Monde from 6 to 11 March 2007. Malaysia will be the guest of honour at this Festival. 

 

PROGRAMME

The Wayang Kulit Siam by Kumpulan Wayang Kulit Anak Sri Baju Merah from Machang, Kelantan will present the Malaysian version of an episode from the Ramayana. The Wayang Kulit Siam is one of the oldest shadow puppet theatres in Malaysia.

(Note: The shows of the Dabus Group, ‘Khalifah” Seteh bin Anjang Ria from Bagan Datok, Perak, are cancelled due to the health ailment of Mr. Haji Ismail Yusof, the group’s main singer. The Wayang Kulit Siam from Kelantan is replacing the Dabus).
    

Video documentary on Malaysia’s traditional performing arts by Mr. Eddin Khoo, Director of PUSAKA – a research organization in the Malaysian traditional performing arts, Kuala Lumpur.
